Houston Johnson
Managing Partner
Professional
Houston serves as a Managing Partner of Green Heron Partners. He is responsible for overall management of the firm as well as the origination, evaluation, due diligence, structuring and execution of investment opportunities. Post-closing, Houston works with the firm’s portfolio companies to support the achievement of their growth and strategic value creation goals. Prior to co-founding Green Heron Partners, Houston spent the majority of the past twelve years as a middle and lower middle market investor at several principal investment firms, where he primarily focused on making investments in services and specialty manufacturing companies. His prior experience includes serving as a Director at Main Street Capital Corporation, a Principal at Turnbridge Capital Partners and an Associate at NGP Energy Capital Management. At these firms he completed more than ten platform and add-on investments and served on the boards of numerous portfolio companies. In addition to his investment experience, Houston served as the CFO of Edge OFS, an energy services business with operations across the U.S. and Canada, from 2018 to 2020. Houston started his career as an Analyst in the Investment Banking Division at Barclays Capital.
Personal
Outside of the office, Houston enjoys spending time with his wife, a travel agent, and two young daughters. When not too busy with work, school, and extracurricular activities, they love travelling as much as possible. He also enjoys playing golf and coaching his daughters’ sports teams. Houston is a native Houstonian and has spent his entire professional career in Texas.
Educational Background
Houston received a B.B.A. in Finance from Southern Methodist University and a M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
Ben Kerley
Principal
Professional
Ben serves as a Principal of Green Heron Partners. He is responsible for the origination, evaluation, due diligence, structuring and execution of investment opportunities. Post-closing, Ben works with the firm’s portfolio companies to support the achievement of their growth and strategic value creation goals. Prior to joining Green Heron Partners, Ben spent the majority of the past eight years as a middle and lower middle market investor at several principal investment firms, where he primarily focused on making investments in services and specialty manufacturing companies. His prior experience includes serving as a Vice President at Mitre Peak Capital, a Senior Associate at Main Street Capital and an Associate at Edge Natural Resources, an energy-focused private equity firm. At these firms he completed more than ten platform and add-on investments and has served as a critical deal team member and board advisor across numerous portfolio companies. Ben started his career as an Analyst in the Investment Banking Division at Barclays Capital.
Personal
Outside of the office, Ben enjoys spending time with his fiancée, a medical sales rep, where they reside in Dallas. A former collegiate athlete, Ben enjoys running, playing golf, fly fishing and staying active. Ben is a native of Leawood, Kansas but considers himself a Texas transplant, where he has spent his entire professional career across both Dallas and Houston.
Educational Background
Ben received a B. A. in Economics from Trinity University. Ben was a member of Trinity University’s NCAA Division III Soccer Team and, prior to transferring, Colgate University’s NCAA Division I Soccer Team.
